• 27 September 2008The Homecoming

From the 22nd to 26th of September, Luke was away at Silverstone Race Circuit in Northamptonshire. The self-titled "Home of British Motor Sport" was host to the RDA for a week long residential. After such a hectic previous week, Luke left in a flurry of excitement and nerves as he prepared to take to the track.

We caught up with our boy shortly after arriving home to find out all the news and here’s what we got in return;  "Well that was fun." Great, thanks for that insight there Luke give us a ring when you feel like indulging us with stories of your wonderful life! On a more serious note, this week would be largely based on evaluating driver skill both on track and in front of the media.

With no requirement for attendance on the Monday, Luke decided to gatecrash the third year's data logging session to get a head start on the other students. The day focussed on analyzing traces from a given lap and seeing how the driver could improve their lap time by altering their actions. Tuesday was track day and the RDA students got to sample some of Colin Chapman’s finest in the form of 3 Supercharged Lotus Exige S cars with 225BHP and a 0-62 faster than that of a Ferrari. Come Wednesday morning, all of the drivers were flustered before their sponsorship pitches in front of the Beechdean Aston Martin GT4 squad; and Thursday and Friday saw the students indulge in a total of 13 hours of fundamental race car design.

After an extraordinary week, Luke was tight lipped about what had happened but at least we know that it was "fun", any more info for us Mr Jones?
