After the technical issues at the previous two championship rounds, there was clearly no point in continuing this year's competition on uncompetitive equipment. A tight budget has meant that unlike some drivers, Luke is restricted to the amount of chassis and engines he can have. It was much more logical to diagnose technical issues than spend the budget on something unnecessarily.

"We decided that we couldn't budget for another chassis at this point in the season. With Buckmore being so disastrous for us, it occupied a large amount of our remaining funds. Then when the second engine looked like it was giving up the ghost we had to prioritise. Myself and Spencer (Barrow) both drove the kart on a test day where our Dad's (and mechanics) tried to get as much feedback from us as possible."

It looks like the day was successful too, the chronic vibrations disappeared and Luke and Spencer showed any doubters that they are both good young talents; lapping faster than anyone else in the wet and coming in on pace during any dry sessions. However, the day was cut short by a heavy downpour and with issues resolved; there was no need to risk the chassis.

"I was really pleased with the outcome of the test, not only did we manage to resolve the issues, we proved that I can challenge anyone for pace. I have always regarded myself as competent in the wet; sometimes drivers can freak out with a greasy track, but there is no room for that in motor racing, especially in the UK where it rains a lot. I also took some lessons away from the day about how to improve my performance and the engines throttle response. Spencer is a fantastic driver and gave me a few pointers."

It seems that you can learn from any driver regardless of their age, Luke being older than Spencer is likely to move into cars next season and so he hopes to make the best of what may be his last 2 championship rounds in karting.
