Karting
Luke started karting aged 10, and his first race was at age 11 in April 2001. He quickly established himself at club level with a string of impressive performances in the Comer Cadet class before graduating into the MiniMax class for 2002. It was in this year Luke made his mark; finishing 21st of over 50 drivers in the Champions of the Future Series after competing in just 2 of 6 rounds. the 2002 season was marked with brilliance after racing for the ACR Birel UK works team, operating in a test driving role on the CRG range of chassis and also taking 3rd in 2 club championships which went down to the wire. At the end of the season, Luke was particularly proud of lapping the new British Number 2 on a greasy track at a Bayford Meadows championship round. A feat all the more impressive when he had slick tyres on!
Luke continued testing karts for the next 2 years before returning to National Championship level on a Birel. A new mechanic and a new chassis followed as Luke tested and raced the Tony Kart chassis with privateer and family run Jones Motorsport for the rest of 2005. The following season saw Luke switch to Intrepid, with a years intensive chassis testing to follow before Luke felt competitive enough to warrant a return to the national arena. In 2007 Luke pitted himself against the best Britain has to offer in the Super One national championships, but any championship aspirations were cut short at the 1st round when Luke was pitched into the barriers whilst challenging for the lead. A long lay off followed to recover from his severe injuries and the impact on the rest of the seasons points tally was obvious.
Eager to make up for a disappointing
2007, the Super One series beckoned again in 2008. A change of
scenery was necessary, and Luke has found his new home with Coles
Racing, a highly regarded and extremely successful team run by
former racer Adrian Coles. At the first round, Luke ran on a
Wildkart but a lack of testing time on the chassis showed. A return
to intrepid prompted a rise in form with an unofficial lap record
at round 3. Round 4 was, unbeknown to Luke, his last round as he
now begins preparations for his move into cars.
